Hand Knotted Carpets
Hand Knotting is a traditional form of rug weaving where each individual strand is hand tied around a cotton warp and weft producing the actual pile of the rug.
These bespoke hand knotted rugs can be made any size, design, colour and are mostly made in wool or silk.
Qualities are available in 80, 100 and 150 knots per square inch and each rug will have tens of thousands of knots tied by hand.
This type of weaving requires both skill and attention and is therefore very labour intensive. A typical 100 knot per square inch rug will take between 10 and 12 weeks to produce.
Any design/pattern is achievable however more intricate designs require a higher knot count to ensure the detail and definition of the design is retained.
All hand knotted rugs are unique pieces of artwork & often become family heirlooms passed down through generations.
At Atelier Floors or in-house design team offers a fully bespoke design and sampling service.
